WHAT IS IT?
The Why Obama? project is an opportunity
for students across the country to share why they are so passionate about supporting Barack Obama for president
in a short essay. From the essays received, we will select 25 for inclusion in a new book (many others will be included on
this website and/or subsequent editions of the book with permission of the authors).
WHAT ARE THE GUIDELINES?
Essay should be sent as an attachment in Word or
WordPerfect to whyobama@gmail.com.
Must be between 1-4 pages, double-spaced.
Essay must include author’s full name, school,
major/emphasis, email, and phone number at the top
Must be well-written, with specific, insightful
reasons why Obama has won your support (make it original and personal)
The deadline is February 18, 2007. The book
is expected to be published in late spring/early summer
WHO CAN SUBMIT?
All students currently enrolled in a high school,
college, or university in the United States.
WHO IS BEHIND THE PROJECT?
Students. The project is being directed by student
activist and author Joe Vogel, but it is really a collaborative effort. We are currently
in the process of determining a publisher who can get the book out quickly and ensure wide distribution and availability.
WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM IT?
America. Our country needs this book. It needs to
understand the reasons behind our support of Barack Obama, because those reasons could likely turn into their reasons
as well. While a substantial portion of the profits of the book will go to Obama's campaign, the primary value will be in
the messages of hope it contains.
WILL INDIVIDUAL AUTHORS BE PAID/RECEIVE
ROYALTIES FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTION?
No. Individual authors will not be financially compensated,
though they will have the opportunity to be published and read by potentially thousands of voters across the country.
The 25 authors included in the book will also be sent a free copy of the book.
WHEN WILL AUTHORS BE NOTIFIED
OF THEIR INCLUSION IN THE BOOK?
Winners will be notified in mid-March via email.
